A heavenly soundscape, SANCTUM SANCTUORUM, Constance Demby's electronic portraits of pious yet romantic devotion, was originally written to accompany the film FACES OF CHRIST. As with Demby's previous works, her strengths here are in blissfully spare arrangements (including bells, harp, male and female Gregorian-style chants) and confident use of silence, pauses, and slow-pacing. These elements, combined with her knack for moving melodies, create a sound that is utterly solemn and yet filled with an indescribable, supernatural joy. Every piece creates a warm, light-filled sanctuary of impenetrable repose that is frequently visited by angelic voices announcing their arrival with hushed incantations or a sweetly sung "Hallelujah." This music is a sure-bet for any purpose that requires turning off the chaos of this world and going somewhere else.
