Georgia-born vocalist Lizz Wright mixes R&B, jazz, folk, and pop in a distinctive style that bears echoes of Nina Simone and Cassandra Wilson (she has also worked with Wilson's producer Craig Street). Wright released her first album, SALT, in 2002. Around that time she also began making guest vocal appearances on albums by a wide variety of artists, collaborating with everyone from jazz keyboardist Joe Sample to singer/songwriter Amos Lee. Wright has paid homage to both the Americana and jazz sides of her musical personality by appearing on tributes to Ella Fitzgerald and the Band.
