Title Note

This "compilation" of various Stearns-songs composed for film and IMAX soundtracks between 1983 and 1993 reveals the many facets of his compositional abilities. Stearns is one of the more earnest practitioners of modern space music. His long, suspended electronic chords convey an impending sense of awe and livid drama. This is music that helps to bridge the gulf between post-Eno ambient and tepid New Age mysticism.

A good number of the tracks on SACRED SITE work fairly rudimentary drones and tones to good effect. Stearns' collaborations with Steve Roach have born enough mental fruit that Stearns elected to dabble in his own ancient modes of shamanism. It's in a different vein, cloaked in sheets of techno ambiguity, but it works. And on the 11+ minute "Return," the overall effect is downright cathartic.
