Review

Melody Maker (5/14/94, p.31) - Recommended - "...It'll take a few listens before it's true love, but, if you've a place in your life for Slint, Come, Shellac, Fugazi or Sonic Youth, then you shouldn't let it gather dust in your local record emporium..."
NME (Magazine) (5/28/94, p.35) - 7 - Very Good - "...Welcome to the distinctively spare sound of Louisville, Kentucky....Out of extreme piddling about, it seems, enlightenment must eventually come..."

Title Note

Rodan: Jeffrey Mueller (guitar, vocals), Jason B. Noble (guitar, vocals, piano), Tara Jane O'Neil (bass, vocals), Kevin Coultas (drums, guitar, vocals).

Additional personnel: Christian Frederickson (viola), Eve Miller, Nat Barrett (cello), Michael Kurth (bass).

The lone EP by this seminal Kentucky post-hardcore outfit (whose members would go on to equally beloved indie outfits such as June of 44), reissued with renewed clarity by original label Quarterstick, is a behemoth of unpredictable quiet-loud arrangements and whisper-to-a-wail vocals. The six-song set begins inauspiciously enough with the seven-minute instrumental "Bible Silver Corner," but quickly fires up to its metallically meandering mid-section, highlighted by the 12-minute epic "The Everyday World Of Bodies." Years later, RUSTY sounds anything but what its title suggests; it's a cornerstone of the mid-'90s uprising of artsy ex-punks making complicated math rock.
