Annotation

Learning to control voice volume is the focus of this fun, retro picture book. Though she's a slight, pigtailed girl with big round glasses, Ruby's booming voice sure can carry. When she's home, everyone on the block knows it, from the man napping on the top floor to the jazz musicians in the basement. At school, her teacher pretends Ruby is a soundblaster, and shows her how to control her volume, using the little girl's shirt buttons as "on," "off," and "volume control." When her classmates beg her to turn off, Ruby feels really blue, and doesn't speak at all. But then those cool, jazzy neighbors share something very special with Ruby that might turn everything around. Accompanied by hand-drawn pen and pencil sketches, washed with digital color.
