Billy Joe Royal Artist Snapshot:

Hailing from Georgia, Billy Joe Royal mixed country, soul, and pop in the 1960s and scored some major hits, like the Joe South-written/produced "Down in the Boondocks" and "Hush." Royal's star faded in the '70s, but he made a stunning comeback in the '80s, signing to Atlantic records and scoring a string of hit singles and albums. Royal continued performing and recording for decades afterward, his unique blend of country and R&B still as strong as ever.

Title Note

Georgia country soul man Billy Joe Royal's star burned bright in the 1960s, but the '70s were his wilderness years. Incredibly, he came back stronger than ever with a string of hit albums for Atlantic in the '80s, and THE ROYAL TREATMENT stands right in the middle of that streak. The sound is glossier and less gritty than his Joe South-produced '60s hits, but he could still charm the birds out of the trees with his R&B-tinged country ballad delivery. He even brings a touch of soul to the countrypolitan bedrock of Jim Reeves's "He'll Have to Go."
