Review

USA Today, 06/28/2005, p.3D, "[T]his Lloyd Bridges starrer technically launched the screen's '50s sci-fi boom..."

Distributor Note

The 50th Anniversary Edition of Kurt Neumann's science fiction classic, restored with enhanced special effects sequences. Four men and a girl blast into space on mankind's first expedition to the Moon. But due to a cataclysmic event in space, their ship is sent hurling out of control towards the planet Mars. Suspenseful terror as the crew fights for their life on a war-ravaged world with radiation-riddled nightmare creatures! The climax makes this one of the most powerful and unforgettable science fiction movies ever made. "Rocketship X-M" was deftly brought to the screen by famed writer/director Kurt Neumann. Long considered the definitive space exploration film of the 50's, a genuine classic with a power that has spanned the decades.

Product Notes

Lloyd Bridges stars as spaceship pilot Colonel Graham in this 1950 sci-fi film about a group of four astronauts (three men, one woman) whose trip to the moon is ruined when a solar wind blows them off course, forcing them to land on Mars. There, they find a primitive society of beings that bear a striking resemblance to humans. One of the better sci-fi films to come out of the 1950s, ROCKETSHIP X-M is a serious thriller that boasts excellent black and white photography (the Mars scenes have an eerie red tint), fine acting, and mixes an intriguing plot and sophisticated science with some rather bizarre fifties naivete, making for a thoroughly entertaining trip into space.
