An immensely talented producer, vocalist, songwriter, musician and arranger, Donny Hathaway got his big break after meeting Cutis Mayfield, who hired Hathaway as producer for his Curtom label. After producing a wide variety of artists for various labels, Hathway was signed to Atlantic as a solo artist. His greatest commercial success, however, came from his R&B/pop duet recordings with Roberta Flack. Though seemingly destined for superstardom, Donny Hathaway ended his career prematurely by committing suicide in 1979.
