Jane's Addiction Artist Snapshot:

Hard rock was usually considered a testosterone-heavy genre--until Jane's Addiction. With his unorthodox image and vocal delivery, singer Perry Farrell broke all preconceived notions of hard rock, as the band combined Led Zeppelin's grandeur with the Cure's ethereal nature. Dressed in a crazy quilt of goth-punk fashions, the L.A.-based group achieved success with their first studio album, NOTHING'S SHOCKING. As icons of the growing alternative rock scene of the early 1990s, Jane's Addiction made their biggest mark by kicking off the first Lollapalooza tour. The group subsequently disbanded, but they have reformed in various incarnations since that time, most notably on the 2003 studio album, STRAYS.

Rolling Stone (5/13/99, p.48) - Included in Rolling Stone's "Essential Recordings of the 90's."
Entertainment Weekly - A- "Difficult, yearning, eruptive rock." Ranked by EW as the #4 Album of 1990.
Q (12/99, p.68) - Included in Q Magazine's "90 Best Albums Of The 1990s."
Stereo Review (12/90) - Performance "Like nothing else" / Recording "In your face" - "...an L.A. band that spews volcanic geysers of attitude and guitar-and-throat noise...You'll either hate it...or love it...The horror and grandeur of sex, art, garbage, crime, pain, and pleasure in the teeming crucible of L.A. are held up for all to see with a naked honesty."
The Bob (Fall/90) - "Unquestionably, Jane's Addiction is hitting a peak where their original blend of glam and metal rocks hard without being redundant."

Title Note

Janes Addiction: Perry Farrell (vocals); Dave Navarro (guitar); Eric Avery (bass); Stephen Perkins (drums, percussion).

Additional personnel: Charlie Bisharat (acoustic & electric violins); John Philip Shenale (strings); Geoff Stradling (piano); Ronnie S. Champagne (bass).

All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.

Jane's Addiction's RITUAL DE LO HABITUAL, the band's third release, is one of the cornerstones of 1990s alternative rock. The album features the group's popular breakthrough hit "Been Caught Stealing," as well as such genre classics as "Stop!," "Ain't No Right," and "Classic Girl."

Also included are the back-to-back epics "Three Days" and "Then She Did," which combine hard-rock, psychedelic, progressive, and alternative music sensibilities. Unfortunately, RITUAL DE LO HABITUAL would prove to be the band's final album with the original lineup. The members parted ways in 1991 after their last live appearances headlining Lollapalooza, the tour series started by lead singer Perry Farrell.
