Ohio--believe it or not--has one of the United States' richest histories of weirdo underground art rock and D.I.Y. punk. Foremost among a slew of bands that helped keep that torch burning bright into the new millennium is Times New Viking, from Columbus. The band's in-the-red blasts of gleeful lo-fi punk proved so infectious they helped to resurrect legendary indie label Siltbreeze Records, who re-opened shop specifically to release the band's first two albums. For their third release, TNV jumped ship for the prestigious and long-running New York indie Matador Records, and distinguished themselves as one of the most exciting and talked-about bands of the American underground of the early '00s.
