Review

Living Blues (5-6/99, pp.80-1) - "...combine guitar heavy blues/rock with vocals and grooves sometimes reminiscent of classic Stax Records soul...RIGHT AS RAIN is an album with great crossover ambitions....crank it up [and] it's almost impossible to keep your foot from tapping."

Beck, Roosevelt Winchester, Charles Jones, L.Z. Love, Cheryl Serame, Jeanie Tracy, Annie Stocking (background vocals).

Recorded at Coast Recorders, San Francisco, California; Laughing Tiger Studio, San Rafael, California; Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California; Magic Tracks, Nashville, Tennessee.

All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.

Bay Area bluesman Tommy Castro's fourth release on Blind Pig Records follows the same formula for success as his previous CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN. Over the years, Castro's sizzling live performances have made him a staple of the blues circuit along the California coast.

Packed with Memphis-style horns, RIGHT AS RAIN features the tasty session work of Dr. John on two tracks, as well as a terrific duet with Delbert McClinton on the R&B cooker "Don't Turn Your Heater Down." As a singer, Castro is part shouter, part crooner, with a style suggestive of Jeff Healey. His immaculate, accomplished guitar playing has been widely praised, drawing comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Duane Allman.
