Richard Rodgers, one half of the songwriting teams responsible for such musicals as LOVE ME TONIGHT, MISSISSIPPI, SOUTH PACIFIC, OKLAHOMA!, and THE SOUND OF MUSIC, created a string of musicals from the 1930s through the 1950s that not only redefined the genre, but brilliantly captured the spirit of the times and also helped to shape them. Though his most famous collaborator was Oscar Hammerstein, Rodgers began his career writing with Lorenz Hart, with whom he composed 28 stage musicals and a number of films. This AMERICAN MASTERS presentation profiles the maestro's life and work, using vintage footage, film clips, and interviews with those who knew him best.
