When trash collectors decide to go on strike during a record-breaking heat wave, the German city of Frankfurt is faced with a growing environmental catastrophe. Feeding off the increasing mountains of waste, giant rats multiply and begin to take over the city. Authorities discover these rats are resistant to traditional forms of extermination and carry a disease that proves fatal to humans. This surprisingly artful horror film offers a vision of the future that is similar to Hitchcock's THE BIRDS.
