Review

"Frank is frequently funny, and she weaves in a dark undercurrent that incites some surprising late-book developments. Tight storytelling, winsomely oddball characters and touches of Southern magic make this a winner."

Annotation

As the title indicates, Dorothea Benton Frank returns to the beloved setting of her first novel, Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, which also happens to be the place of her birth. Beth Hayes has just graduated from college in Boston when she is compelled to return home to Lowcountry to housesit the family estate for a year. Beth expects a year of relaxation and contemplation on the Atlantic coast, but she soon finds herself the subject of amorous intentions from a pair of very different young men. But while Beth is distracted by the gorgeous scenery and her dueling suitors, someone tries to drain the family bank account and take away the home that defines their heritage.
