Londoner Pop Levi took the unusual step of moving to Liverpool to further his music career--a reverse of the U.K. music industry norm of musicians moving to London in search of the big time. In Liverpool he joined the cult electronic outfit Ladytron, but after recording and touring with the band, he decided to strike out on his own and pursue a different musical direction. Although Levi subsequently moved to Los Angeles, the music he created could not have sounded more British. His exotically named solo album, THE RETURN TO FORM BLACK MAGICK PARTY--released Spring 2007--was a skilful blend of glam rock, psychedelia, and 1980s electronica.

A former member of Liverpool electro-pop band Ladytron, Pop Levi released his exotically named solo album, THE RETURN TO FORM BLACK MAGICK PARTY, in February 2007. Less slavishly retro than the work of his former band, the album seemingly channeled the spirit of Prince, Marc Bolan, and Roxy Music. The end result was a sound not unlike Goldfrapp's 2006 album, SUPERNATURE--in short 1960s melodies, 1970s glam-rock beats, and 1980s synth-driven electronica.
