Mesh Match For "Retrospective" CD by Indigo Girls:

Indigo Girls Artist Snapshot:

Since the late-1980s, the Athens, Georgia, duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, collectively the Indigo Girls, have been creating gentle, yet furious harmonies, gloriously un-fragile folk crafted with an uncompromising DIY aesthetic. In 1989, MTV caught wind of the pair and, while the outlet's sensationalist nature harped on the lesbian angle, the station also pushed the single "Closer to Fine" onto the pop charts. The fanbase remained, even after any wisp of novelty faded, and the 1990s saw the Indigo Girls release a constant stream of critically praised records, highlighted by RITES OF PASSAGE and SWAMP OPHELIA.

The feminist Everly Brothers? You get to make the call with this well chosen best-of, featuring 14 career-spanning tracks from all their albums (beginning with their debut, originally released as an indie, STRANGE FIRE) and concluding with two previously unreleased new tunes.

Highpoints include the Girls' initial MTV hit "Closer to Fine," (still their anthem) and "Galileo," a Beatles-esque meditation on reincarnation. "Shame on You" is probably the hardest rocking song they've ever done, perhaps because both Girls play electric guitar for a change, or perhaps (just as likely) due to the presence of alt country god Steve Earle on harmony vocals.
