Title Note

Snog includes: David Thrussell.

Largely the project of David Thrussell, Snog is an in-your-face, politically aware industrial/dance monster, as opposed to some of Thrussell's other projects like Black Lung, which is a politically-aware ambient/industrial project. REMOTE CONTROL is a brutal collection of singles, remixes, and live tracks recorded between 1991 and 1995. At over 70 minutes in length, this album's intensity and powerful machine grooves are an excellent introduction to Snog's world-view.

Thrussell's vocals are delivered in the Skinny Puppy-vein: slow and digitally low. The beats, fast or slow, are painfully dense and heavy. Standouts include the punishing single "Corporate Slave," a searing indictment of business culture; "Hey, Christian God," an attack on the monetary side of religion, complete with cash register sounds and a morose horn section; and the live "Real Wise Yuppie / Born to Be Mild," which is radically slowed-down, and structured around a somewhat unexpectedly sad piano line. "Born to Be Mild" actually appears three times on this collection, but each version is so different from the next that one would be hard pressed to find fault with the group for including them all. REMOTE CONTROL is industrial dance the way it should be done.
