Review

Alternative Press (p.160) - 3 stars out of 5 -- '[T]he band consistently do a fine job of recreating the classic '60s Jamaican reggae/rocksteady sound....No cornerstone is left unturned."

Title Note

The Aggrolites: Brian Dixon, Jesse Wagner (guitar); Roger Rivas (organ); J Bonner (bass instrument); Korey "Kingston" Horn (drums).

Additional personnel: Boogie Jones (saxophone); Tom Cook (trombone); MC Junor Francis (unknown instrument); Nicki Manusetti, Christina Wagner, Gabe Aguirre (background vocals).

Recording information: Kingsize Sound Labs, Los Angeles, California.

The West Coast reggae revivalists the Aggrolites take their inspiration from the Jamaican Studio One and Lee Perry records of the 1960s and early-'70s, going beyond the manic third-wave ska energy of many of their peers in favor of a more authentic, classically swaying sound. Tracks such as "You Got 5" and "Rhythm and Light," with their remarkably accurate evocation of such late-'60s instrumentals as "Double Barrel" and "The Liquidator," point to the band's immersion in the genre's sound and style, and their expertise in translating it for a 21st-century audience.
