This recording of his violin sonatas is a perfect example of the composer's ability to blend classical form with contemporary styles.

His Sonata in B flat major opens the album, showing Reger's fully established style. Arranged from an original written for clarinet and piano, the violin adds a tender, melancholy theme to the piece. Meanwhile, "Petit Caprice" is full of lilting, dancing passion. The passing of time has proven the lasting beauty of Reger's music--it's hard to imagine the virulent reaction against it at the time.
