The Weakerthans Artist Snapshot:

Winnipeg's the Weakerthans could be mistaken for just another power-pop band, but beyond the gleaming melodies and jangly, punk-tinged guitars lie dense and intricate lyrics that examine life from both a personal and a global perspective, reflecting the literate intelligence and political engagement of songwriter John K. Samson (formerly of agit-punk band Propaghandi). The band, who have been releasing albums since 1999, are committed to grass roots causes and a DIY approach, eschewing major-label offers in order to stay rooted in the indie scene.

Review

Q (2/04, p.106) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Good things are the strong melodies, subtle right-on politics and plenty of musical light and shade..."
Alternative Press (9/03, p.100) - 4 out of 5 - "...The Weakerthans three-way marriage of folk-rock-punk thrives. The hooks are smarter and as catchy as monkey pox; the sonic embellishments keen. May this reconstruction be ongoing..."
