Review

Rolling Stone (p.94) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Channeling the motorized grooves of Can and the industrial experiments of Throbbing Gristle, these Brooklynites deliver a chilling, post-apocalyptic concept album..."
Magnet (p.118) - "[With] twitchy, knob-turning electronics amid lumbering distortion and lyrics foretelling vague apocalyptic threats."
The Wire (p.74) - "RECEIVERS is unashamedly uplifting, opener 'Satellites' greeting the oncoming crunch with wide open arms and a digital grin."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.111) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[A]ll manner of sonic matter is woven into these songs. This gives texture to 'The Ceasing Now,' with its dark-hued bass and a melody that rises as the droning guitar turns to fuzz and the drummer switches to weighty tom-tom patterns."
Signal To Noise (magazine) (p.66) - "Joseph Wong replaces Weingarten....He provides a more streamlined groove, one that gets the job done without ever getting in the way."

Title Note

Additional personnel: Ray Chi (cello); Matthew Welch (bagpipe); Fay the Levine (musical saw); Todd Bailey.

Audio Mixers: Parts & Labor; Blair Wells.

Though Parts & Labor have been mainstays of the Brooklyn noise rock scene since their inception in the early `00s, few of their early efforts are as immediately accessible as RECEIVERS, an album that blends the aggressive textures and experimental bent of albums like STAY AFRAID with a cheerily melodic, unrepentantly pop-friendly sensibility that has little precedent in the group's catalogue. If the group's 2007 release, MAPMAKER, featured ghostly but anthemic vocals buried beneath the group's trademark wall-of-sound noisemaking, RECEIVERS boldly brings those choruses front and center, supplementing them with smartly bubbling, hook-filled bass lines and simple but effective percussion. RECEIVERS is a startlingly successful marriage of chaos and melody, and represents a promising change of direction for these seasoned Brooklyn noisemakers.
