This disc offers the music featured in the TV series QUEER AS FOLK. The show began in England, and was initially deemed too controversial to be shown in the US. However, Showtime took up the gauntlet and created its own series based on the original, focusing on the ups and downs of life as a homosexual in today's world. The songs included here are the kind you'd be likely to hear on a long evening of cosmopolitan club-hopping (specifically an evening of gay club-hopping). Synth blasts and house beats are the order of the day, as frenetic dance rhythms pound out a hectic cadence. There are some variations, though, such as the old-school disco beat of Alcazar's "Crying at the Discoteque," the muted, jazz-sampling "Straight To...Number One," and a clubbed up take on the Deniece Williams '80s hit "Let's Hear it for the Boy" that gives the old FOOTLOOSE anthem a whole new context.
