Houston's Carlos Coy, the mastermind behind both South Park Mexican and Dope House records, is an example of the classic American rags-to-riches story. After hitting bottom as a denizen of the drug underworld, Coy turned his life around, rededicating himself to music. He started Dope House, which began as an underground hip-hop label but soon rose to national prominence. South Park Mexican is Coy's vehicle for self-expression.

On THE PURITY ALBUM, all of Coy's street experiences manifest themselves as cautionary tales. They're couched in funky frameworks so seductive that one might almost miss the harshness of some of the lyrics' scenarios, but there's no mistaking Carlos Coy's ultimate intention. By the album's end, he's taken you on a virtual tour of the underworld, and you emerge on the other side wiser for the journey, and ready to take on the world with a new sense of perspective.
