"Oh, no!" you might cry. "Not another '80s new wave compilation." Well, set your fears aside. While PURE '80s HITS does include some of the skinny-tie classics included on other collections of '80s hits by the likes of Duran Duran, Simple Minds, and Kim Wilde, the disc takes a broader view of the decade fashion forgot.
This feat is accomplished by expanding beyond new wave into the pure pop of Rick Springfield's "Human Touch," post-prog rock in Asia's "Heat of the Moment," blue-eyed soul on Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams Come True," and AOR power ballads such as Night Ranger's "Sister Christian." Of course, there are a couple of pop hits here that transcend genre, such as John Waite's "Missing You" and the Plimsouls' Byrds-like "A Million Miles Away," just to give this collection that much more of an edge over the considerable competition.
