Just in time to coincide with the Vans Warped Tour comes this budget-priced hardcore collection for those who like it hard, short, and fast. Compiled by those punk fanatics over at Epitaph Records, PUNK-O-RAMA 2001 features the cream of this very DIY label's stable, and is a mix of So-Cal legends (Bad Religion, Descendants), Bay Area stalwarts (Rancid, NOFX), and even an outfit from the very un-punk Garden State (Bouncing Souls). Amidst all the chaos are a number of nuggets, including the chugging ska of Voodoo Glow Skulls' "Say Goodnight," the choppy Pennywise/Exene Cervenka cover of X's "We're Desperate," and The Dropkick Murphys' defiant "The Gauntlet." Economically priced and brimming over with attitude and jackhammer tempos, PUNK-O-RAMA 2001 is a welcome panacea for those looking for music with a bit of an edge.
