PROYECTO AKWID was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.

Consisting of California brothers Francisco and Sergio Gomez, Akwid combines Latino hip-hop with traditional Mexican banda music. On PROYECTO AKWID, the duo raps in Spanish over booming beats and boisterous horns, starting with the infectious "No Hay Manera." On "Taquito de Ojo," Jenni Rivera contributes a smooth, sensual vocal cameo, and "A Pesar de Todo" features emotive crooner Adan Sanchez. Throughout the album, the Gomez brothers prove to be proficient MCs, unleashing their flow over music that ranges from synth-driven jams, such as "Sin Ti," to nearly orchestral songs, such as "Subir Arriba." With their no-frills sound and image, Akwid brims with street-cred authenticity.
