[Il Divo - Adagio] Watch a video for "Agadio" from Il Divo's "The Promise" album!
Personnel: John Parricelli (guitars); Steve Mac (piano, organ, keyboards); Dave Arch (piano); Chris Laws (drums); Frank Ricotti (percussion).
With the arrival of THE PROMISE, the remarkable success of vocal crossover act Il Divo is certain to continue. Comprising four classically trained singers, Il Divo alighted upon a unique sound by bringing operatic technique to romantic and popular songs. The result--as heard on the #1 albums SIEMPRE and ANCORA--is sustained and refined on this 2008 release.
With its lush arrangements, songs sung in Spanish, Italian, and English, and the quartet members' gorgeous voices, THE PROMISE may not pack many surprises, but that won't come as a disappointment to devoted fans. Songs include "Amazing Grace," Abba's "The Winner Takes It All," and the Holly Johnson and Trevor Horn classic "The Power of Love," make this effort another dazzling showcase for the voices of Il Divo.

Great Emotional and Uplifting Music!, December 7, 2008
By Angel205
The Promise, a new album by IL Divo is beautiful and romantic. These four
singers, David Miller, Carlos Marin, Urs Buhler, and Izambard combine their
vocals in a way that makes you feel the soul of the music. These guys bring out
the best in each others tones. I would love to hear either one of these guys do
a solo.
This album, The Promise, by IL Divo has 11 great emotional and
uplifting songs. My favorite is Amazing Grace. I grew up with my Dad singing and
performing this song and these guys bring back the memories of Dad. They give a
heart felt emotion in all of the songs on the album. It is a great stress
reliever. I strongly recommend it to all age groups.

I really wanted to like this album...., December 6, 2008

This was my first time hearing Il Divo, and I dove into “The Promise” CD
headfirst, and with great expectations. Perhaps I set the bar too high, because
I was sorely disappointed. The music is beautiful, but alarmingly soporific and
tedious. The singers have wonderfully clear and resonant voices and take great
care and precision in delivering every note perfectly, to the effect that the
passion is never allowed to seep through. One of the few bright spots in this
album was L’Alba del Mondo, an Italian adaptation of Ennio Morricone’s “I Knew I
Loved You (Deborah’s Theme).” The addition of some more familiar renditions,
such as “Hallelujah” and “Amazing Grace” make it more bearable but are not
enough to overcome the dreary, one-note atmosphere that plagues the album. I
will check out Il Divo’s previous works with optimism, but sadly, this is one
promise that is never delivered.

Theres no denying that these men have beautiful voices. This CD is entertaining
because all of the melodies are familiar, but their twist makes them fresh.
Track 8 is the best! It completely grabs me every time.

This is the CD I have been waiting for. I am an Il Divo fan and this new CD,
The Promise, did not disappoint! Amazing Grace brought tears to my eyes while
the Power of Love just made me feel peaceful. I just recently lost my
Grandfather last week and this CD helped me get through that really rough patch!
I would recommend this Cd to anyone, young or old!

I was a huge fan of Il Divo when they first originally came out. Their first
release was absolutely superb and I actually have 2 copies of it. This time
around, i felt the album was not as great as the previous release, since the
melodies seemed rather monotonous. regardless, this is a great album to pop in
and relax to. the harmony, as always, is great! cant wait for their next
release!

This is one of the most romantic and beautiful CDs I have ever heard! All of
the songs and all of the voices are so big that the surround you and wrap you up
into the music and you get carried away! It is the type of music you play when
you are wanting to be transported into another world! Let it take you away! My
favorite is Hallelujah. I have this song by another artist is English and it
sounds even better sung by such large and powerful voices.
Very relaxing, December 2, 2008

While Im not an opera fan, this CD was very relaxing and much different than I
expected. It wasnt like the fat lady singing or anything like that. The sounds
were very relaxing and with familiar tunes, it makes for a great change of pace.
I didnt like this AT ALL., December 2, 2008
By RedHeadedJoJo
I heard this album and two words come to mind. "IL STINKO." This is the absolute
worst music Ive heard since Josh Groban first came on the scene. In fact, this
is even worse. Because there are FOUR OF THEM. Imagine opera music getting it on
with bad romantic standards by people like Peter Cetera. The resulting offspring
is Il Divo.
Ive listened to this album TWICE, and once I got past the album
cover of four cheesy guys who belong in Vegas, I was able to focus more
completely on the music. Which was unfortunate. Because its absolutely not my
thing at all. I respect great opera music but this, my friends, is not where its
at. This kind of stuff belongs on CD only available for purchase over the
television.
I recommend giving this album as a Christmas gift to people you
never want to speak with again.
