This elaborate production upholds the tradition set by the many opulent biblical epics of Hollywood.
The tale centers on Micah, the "Prodigal" of the title. He gives in to greedy impulses and recklessly spends his share of his father's riches on Samorra, the high priestess of Astarte. Micah wants her to wed him and leave behind her pagan gods.
Ultimately, though, it appears that the prodigal son will not forsake his allegiance to Jehovah and must begin his journey home.
Or can he be swayed?
