With Matthew Taylor on bass and Girls Against Boys' Alexis Fleisig on drums, husband-and-wife pair Giovanna Cacciola and Agostino Tilotta (formerly of Uzeda) release their third album of sinewy, Steve Albini-produced post-noise. Perhaps THE PRECIOUS PRIZE's most alluring quality is the ability to evoke heaviness despite a lack of overstated density. Highlights such as "Numbers" have the math-rock appeal of latter-day structural nihilists like Car Bomb or Child Abuse, but manage to feel grippingly intimate, thanks to both Cacciola's confrontational beat-poetry style vocals and Tolitta's looping, aggravated guitars. GRAVITY is an automatic PRIZE for fans of Shellac, Don Caballero, and other post-rock specialists.
