The greatest of the blues' pre-war slide guitar masters, Blind Willie Johnson recorded for only a brief period during the late '20s and early '30s. For years, blues fans searching for Blind Willie Johnson's driving evangelical blues had only one choice: Yazoo's PRAISE GOD I'M SATISFIED and its companion, SWEETER AS THE YEARS GO BY.

As originally conceived, PRAISE GOD I'M SATISFIED was to present Johnson's 14 greatest tracks, while SWEETER gathers his remaining 15 released tracks. One might regard PRAISE GOD as a "greatest hits" package, then; every track shimmers with rasping, impassioned vocals and virtuoso guitar licks (the same, however, can be said of SWEETER). The sound quality is remarkably good considering the early vintage of these recordings, and the performances are transcendent. Johnson's music is difficult to describe because nothing else is quite like it, but you can rest assured of one thing: once you've heard it, you're not likely to ever forget it.
