Title Note

Solo performer: Bill Evans (piano).

Includes liner notes by Evan Evans.

All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.

Thanks to son Evan Evans, jazz fans have access to the archives of father Bill. Evans's tremendous contribution to modern piano is a given and these homemade tapes provide a tiny window onto the dedicated life of the practicing musician. Though the liner notes provide no recording date, this session was most likely made sometime in the '70s, the last decade of the senior Evans's life (1929-1980).

Evans works out harmonic and rhythmic possibilities on a cross-section of his repertoire as well as some run-throughs of selections from Bach's keyboard touchstone "The Well Tempered Clavier." Upon very close listening, Evans can be heard making comments to some lucky individual whom was in the room at the time. Though lo-fi through and through--even after much use of digital muscle to rescue these rare gems from obscurity--his distinctive touch and unique phrasing are omnipresent.
