Title Note

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.

Personnel: Maureen Starkey (vocals, drums, background vocals).

Recording information: Ultraschall Studios, Hamburg, Germany.

Photographer: Stefan Malzkorn.

Unlike Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, who perform covers that span the pop spectrum with a punk approach, the Punkles have been taking exclusive aim at the Beatles' back catalog since 1998. And the first shot fired on Pistol is "Magical Mystery Tour," which is delivered with a bombast akin to vintage Ramones. Operating on the credo that "All You Need Is Punk," Joey Lennon, Sid McCartney, Captain O'Harrison, and Markey Starkey pump up "Day Tripper," serving it at breakneck speed. Elsewhere, they stomp through Ringo Starr's signature number "With a Little Help From My Friends," and cook up rousing interpretations of "Hey Jude," "I Am the Walrus," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," and "Get Back." Most innovative among these bastardized classics is the ska-inflected take on "Tomorrow Never Knows." Part tribute, part tongue-in-cheek, the Punkles don't just parody the Lennon and McCartney songbook, they breathe new life into it. ~ John D. Luerssen
