On Project 86's previous effort, RIVAL FACTIONS, the heavy Christian combo seemed to be leaning in an alternative rock direction, sometimes sounding like a combination of Jane's Addiction and the Bravery. With PICKET FENCE CARTEL, however, the group discovers the sludgy joys of stoner metal. Titles such as "Dark Angel Dragnet," "Destroyer," and "Cyclonus" channel Black Sabbath and its minions, and the attendant songs deliver a sound to match. Often recalling the throbbing riffs of Fu Manchu and Queens of the Stone Age, albeit with somewhat more polished production values, the tracks on PICKET FENCE CARTEL find Project 86 celebrating the glory of God with the Devil's own musical tools.
