Personnel: Craig Armstrong.

Craig Armstrong is a pop music composer noted for his many film scores. On PIANO WORKS, he performs 19 solo piano pieces, some of which were originally written for major movies. For example, "Satine's Theme" is from MOULIN ROUGE!, "Morning Breaks" is from ROMEO + JULIET (Baz Luhrmann's version), and "Glasgow Love Theme" is from LOVE ACTUALLY.

This music is dreamy and lush, and each track can be interpreted as a small dose of sonic imagery. As one might expect, all of the music on PIANO WORKS is played on a grand piano. However, it's easy to mistake certain sounds for keyboards. In order to create the rich sound on some of these tracks, Armstrong employed various studio effects. For instance, he uses backward piano loops on "Sunrise" and extensive studio fades on "Diffuse." Additionally, he mutes select strings on "Gentle Piece." "Childhood 2" is the one exception to the piano-only rule. On this piece, Armstrong's tranquil chords are complemented by the distant voices of children playing in a park.
