Though a relatively minor figure in the power-pop movement (he played and wrote songs with Dwight Twilley), Phil Seymour's 1981 solo album is something of a pop gem. From the lead-off track and hit single "Precious to Me" to '50s-styled groovers like "Let Her Dance" to slinky psychedelic rockers like "Don't Blow Your Life Away," PHIL SEYMOUR is filled with tight, feel-good arrangements along with layered, Badfinger-esque harmonies and shimmering, perfectly constructed melodies. The 2005 CD reissue contains three previously unreleased bonus tracks (one of which was written by Twilley, who also penned two songs on the album proper). In the pantheon of cult power-pop classics, PHIL SEYMOUR compares favorably with the Dwight Twilley Band's SINCERELY, which is high praise indeed.
