Review

Rolling Stone (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[He has] an ability to write grimy blues songs that toss in snatches of Neil Young and the Stones -- not to mention a narcotic, sometimes murky guitar sound."
Down Beat (p.61) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Webb's modern blues of psychic unrest often startles for its casual, skewed intensity."

Title Note

Personnel: TK Webb (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Shannon Funchess (vocals, tambourine); Courtney Shanks (vocals); Jared Eggers (piano, keyboard, bass instrument, tambourine); Toshi Yano (Fender Rhodes piano); Tim Shrider (drums, percussion).

Recording information: Rare Book Room, Brooklyn, New York.

TK Webb's thematic calling card on his debut record was isolation, as he played solitary, heart-wrenching blues performed completely solo. His blues have never been about sexuality or bravado--only depression and loneliness. It is a surprise, then, that Webb employs a band for his sophomore release, 2006's PHANTOM PARADE, and surprising still that it clicks this well. Webb translates the experienced grit of his solo work to a full band situation with aplomb. He even sounds like he's having a good time and, by extension, the listener does too. Making blues rock sound this fresh is not easy, and Webb & Co. deserve kudos for this rough-and-tumble gem.
