Growing up in Kingston's tough Trench Town ghetto, Christoper Campbell was a Chuck Norris fan. On his strong first album PERSISTENCE, this conscious DJ comes with as much force--righteous force, that is--as a well-placed karate kick from his idol (and stage namesake) Chuck Norris. The powerful "Bad Road" sets the album's tone: contemporary sound, with a classic roots reggae core and universally-themed lyrics. That song proved Man to be a rising artist armed with penetrating lyrics and a dynamic "sing-jay" style (a fusion of chanting with singing).

Man's style is still developing, but the conviction and emotional urgency of his vocals, as well as his rich voice compensate for any stylistic shortcomings. Though PERSISTENCE was released on the King of Kings label, Man is managed by Startrail, the label led by producer Richard Bell, who developed stars like Everton Blender and Anthony B. The album features several Bell-produced tracks: the anthemic "Bright Days," and "Holy Mount Zion," a striking "combination style" (singer plus DJ) featuring ex-Black Uhuru Mykal Rose and Man.
