Review

The Wire (p.70) - "[T]here are works of almost unearthly beauty, not least of which is Cantor Joseph Rosenblatt's 'El Mole Rachmim'..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.123) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Often primitively recorded, these tales of natural disasters, destruction by machine and death by various forms of violence are related by mainly little-known country, folk and blues performers..."

Title Note

Audio Remasterers: Christopher C. King; Robert Vosgein.

Imagine Harry Smith's famed ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC with a chip on its shoulder and you'll have an entry point to the three-disc set PEOPLE TAKE WARNING. Fabulously appointed with fascinating, detailed notes and a handsome booklet, PTW houses a bounty of Depression-era folk, blues, and country tracks. Though some of the artists (Charlie Patton, Son House) are quite famous, there's a host of more esoteric (but equally powerful) performers known mostly to folk/blues cultists. All this archival talent is assembled under the thematic umbrella of calamity. The set is broken up into songs of natural disaster, murder, and human endeavors gone fatally awry. In the early 21st century, the cumulative apocalyptic feel of these songs from some seven decades ago has an eerie resonance.
