Title Note

Recorded at Parco Novi Sad, Modena, Italy on June 6, 2000. Includes liner notes by Luciano Pavarotti.

This document of the great tenor's ninth annual children's charity concert was recorded in the presence of the Dalai Lama. As usual, Pavarotti's friends are an eclectic group of pop musicians from around the world, with all the stylistic differences that would imply. The reunited Eurythmics perform a riveting acoustic version of (fittingly enough) "I Saved the World Tonight." George Michael absolutely slays the crowd with an impassioned rendition of the Depression era chestnut "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime."

Danish popsters Aqua are appropriately bubbly on "Funiculi, Funicula," one of several duets with Pavarotti, who also blends surprisingly well with Brazilian pop star Caetano Veloso and, of all people, earnest folkie Tracy Chapman. The whole affair ends with a heartfelt (and note-faithful) version of the Beatles "All You Need is Love" by the entire cast. This is good music for a good cause.
