Title Note

2 LPs on 1 CD.

Personnel: Patsy Cline (vocals); Ray Edenton, Randy Hughes, Grady Martin (guitar); Walter Haynes, Ben Keith (steel guitar); Rita Faye Wilson (autoharp); Hargus "Pig" Robbins (piano); Floyd Cramer, Bill Pursell (organ, vibraphone); Joe Jenkins, Bob Moore, Harold Bradley (bass); Doug Kirkham, Buddy Harman (drums); Millie Kirkham, The Jordanaires (background vocals).

Includes a chronology of Patsy Cline's career and original release and recent liner notes by Jay Orr and Don Roy.

MCA's PATSY CLINE STORY is a reissue of the two-LP commemorative set Decca released in the aftermath of Cline's tragic death in a 1963 plane crash. Cline only released a few LPs during her short career, while putting out a steady stream of singles. PATSY CLINE STORY includes 11 songs from her second LP, SHOWCASE, and five from her last one, SENTIMENTALLY YOURS. The remaining eight tunes were never issued on LP during her lifetime.

Cline's material from 1955-1960, while released by Decca, was recorded under contract with the Four Star company. From 1960 to 1963 she recorded directly for Decca, and MCA's reissues, including this one, draw from the three years of the Decca catalog. While all Cline's work was produced by Owen Bradley, this later material was much more squarely aimed at the pop market. She even recut "Walkin' After Midnight" (the version heard here) with the smooth backup vocals of the Jordanaires replacing the original's hard honky-tonk steel guitar and fiddle. This is the best-documented collection of Cline's later work, with full listings of all session personnel for every tune, as well as the original liner notes and a career chronology.
