Historically, many country artists have been quick to assert an unwavering love for the United States. Released at the height of the Iraqi Conflict, PATRIOTIC COUNTRY provides a Nashville-style reminder of why the Stars & Stripes are worth defending. In addition, proceeds from sales of the album benefit the USO and several other military-related charities.
The disc kicks off with a newly recorded version of Lee Greenwood's classic "God Bless the USA." that sounds every bit as heartfelt as his original. Several of country music's other most outspoken national defenders are also present (Charlie Daniels, Hank Williams Jr., Aaron Tippin), as well as somewhat younger, but no less fervent, supporters of the cause (Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride). While the songs here range from tear-jerking (David Ball's "Riding with Private Malone") to confrontational (Daniels's "This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag"), all are imbued with down-home sound and spirit that make good on the album title's promise.
