I had heard the album and finally got to see the show at Le Poisson Rouge on
Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village.
First let me tell you that I am not
Turkish and knew nothing
about Turkish music, and I am not a big fan of most
jazz or hard rock or this thing called fusion.
But I know a lot about
entertainment and I have a huge capacity
for fun and enjoyment. Sertab Erener
and Demir Demirkan are wonderful performers, and Sertab is one of the best
entertainers that I have ever seen in person in my whole life. I have been
around long enough to have seen thousands of top
entertainers and she took the
excitement meter to the highest level. She has a gorgeous voice, charmed the
audience, and is really beautiful and personable. As a lyricist, I have no
tolerance for any songs or singers where you cannot hear
or appreciate the
lyric. With Sertab, that is no problem because her English pronunciation and
enunciation are the best in the business! I am talking about superb musical
professionalism. She has a marvelous figure, and dynamic sex
appeal and
loveliness that is appealing to women as much as men. Demir Demirkan has animal
magnetism, and a sultry smile. Demir can play guitar riffs that would impress
his peers, and if he lowered his sound only 10% he would be a better
accompanist.
"Painted on Water" had phenomenal back-up musicians on keys,
drums and bass guitar. The show will appear again on Summerstage in Central Park
on June 27th. Im going there to see them again, and some talented clarinetists
and other groups. I was really high with happiness during and after the show and
they got
a well-deserved standing ovation too. I found everything about them to
be charming, original, interesting and a total delight.
