The Pains of Being Pure At Heart Artist Snapshot:

With a name fittingly earnest for their brand of heart-on-sleeve dream-pop, the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart formed in the late 2000s amidst Brooklyn's fertile post-punk scene, which was taking inspiration from sources as diverse as early '80s American indie and '90s-era British shoegaze. After a handful of sold-out 7-inch singles, and a self-titled EP, Pure At Heart's boy/girl vocals and Wedding Present-esque euphoric feedback crystallized into a self-titled full-length LP in 2009. The band also embarked on tour dates across the U.S. with peers like ca-USE co-MOTION to support their debut.

Bridging the sound of mid-1980s Paisley Underground dream-pop and early '90s alternative rock/ shoegaze from both sides of the pond, this bi-gender Brooklyn quartet is pure melodic bliss for lovers of music both jagged and sweet. On "Stay Alive," the vibe is all Pale Saints, gentle and ethereal, while cleverly titled songs like "Young Adult Friction" crackle with David Gedge-worthy post-punk riffs. PAINS OF BEING PURE is everything that its title implies, but in its very beauty and simplicity, this LP offers little room for debate about any corresponding lack of depth.
