Just Jack--given name Jack Allsopp--was on the margin of success for several years. His first album, THE OUTER MARKER (2002), was released to widespread critical acclaim and earned him favorable comparisons to Mike Skinner's stylistically similar outfit, the Streets. Without the crossover success needed to put him firmly on the pop map, his label went bust and Allsopp seemingly faded from view. In October 2006, Just Jack re-emerged with a vengeance. "Writer's Block"--on new label Universal--received glowing notices in the music press, but the follow-up, "Starz In Their Eyes," a witty comment on reality TV and celebrity magazine culture, shot to number two on the U.K. singles chart and paved the way for Jack's sophomore album, OVERTONES.
