Since emerging from the world of session-work in the '70s, Luther Vandross has spent the '80s and most of the '90s cultivating a smooth image as an unparalleled soul balladeer. Vandross' 1989 double-CD compilation THE BEST OF earned him his first Pop Top 10 ("Here And Now") and a 1990 Grammy Award. ONE NIGHT WITH YOU is the companion compilation that covers the bulk of his '90s work.

Kicking off with four new songs, the album includes pop conspirators Dianne Warren, R.Kelly and the Minneapolis duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who push for a new-jack edge on "I Won't Let You Do That To Me." The remaining tracks are a mix of straight-up ballads ("I Can Make It Better"), a dance-friendly Janet Jackson remix ("The Best Things In Life Are Free") and a handful of covers that include an unexpectedly sanctified take on Stephen Stills' free-love anthem "Love The One You're With."
