Recorded live at the Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, California on August 13, 1975. Includes liner notes by Dan Healy.

All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.

The first entry in a series of vintage Dead concert recordings, the two-CD set ONE FROM THE VAULT captures a 1975 concert that is often cited by Dead fanatics as one of the band's greatest. As the affectionate liner notes indicate, the Dead had just finished recording BLUES FOR ALLAH, and they had just launched Grateful Dead Records, so, with much to celebrate, they decided to play a show.

The evening begins with a palpable sense of electricity. Legendary impresario Bill Graham introduces the band and the Dead kick into "Help on the Way" and the song cycle that begins BLUES FOR ALLAH. The tunes capture the different elements of the band at work. Especially incandescent are Garcia's gorgeous, lightning runs on Johnny Cash's chugging "Big River" and Phil Lesh's bass excursions on "Eyes of the World."
