Keyboardist Wayne Horvitz has been releasing a steady stream of albums since the early 1980s, nearly all of which are characterized by a restless creativity and an advanced musical imagination. ONE DANCE ALONE, the second studio effort by Horvitz's Gravitas Quartet, specializes in a sort of modern chamber jazz, combining elements of contemporary classical and avant-garde jazz in his unique arrangements for strings, horns, and piano. The cover of Elliott Smith's "A Fond Farewell (for Nica)" is an added bonus.
