Along with Franz Ferdinand, the Futureheads, and the Arctic Monkeys, Hard-Fi was part a the U.K. blitz of the early 2000s that drew inspiration from 1970s/'80s post-punk icons like the Clash and the Jam. Hard-Fi's sophomore effort, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, continues in the vein of their hugely popular debut, while diversifying the band's palette by including new wave and classic R&B flavors. But skittering rhythms and anthemic choruses are still Hard-Fi's forte, along with politically motivated lyrics that rail against the injustices of governments and social mores. From the cheeky cover art (a text announcing "No Cover Art") to the edgy, danceable, morally fueled music within, ONCE UPON A TIME shows Hard-Fi growing, and finding their mark.
