Review

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.47) - "Hidden inside this album's series of breezy melodies, lies a band with a commendable levity of touch..."

Title Note

1997: Caleb Pepp (vocals, guitar); Alida Marroni (vocals, keyboards, glockenspiel); Kevin Thomas (vocals); Cody Josephson (E-bow, harmonica); Alan Gotfinski (accordion, bass guitar, programming, musical saw); Nick Coleman (glockenspiel, drums, percussion).

Chicago's 1997 make the kind of lush, emotional pop music that generally gets called emo these days. ON THE RUN focuses on those sparkling moments of melodic uplift that often come hand in hand with that much-maligned appellation. Back-and-forth male and female vocals further prettify the proceedings, and keyboards provide crystalline accompaniment to the glossy guitars. Wistful songs like "January 19th" and "I Will Always Find You" make good use of the dueling vocals, and "4 A.M. Conversation" plays out like exactly that. While focusing on beauty, 1997 hasn't ignored the accompanying heartache that sometimes comes along in its wake.
