Title Note

Frank Sinatra was a major star at the time of these radio broadcasts, all of which are live performances excerpted from his popular Lucky Strike Lite-Up Time shows. Sinatra is in great form with his warm swinging vocals, accompanied by orchestras led by Jeff Alexander, Ziggy Elman, or Skitch Henderson. He's perfectly comfortable delivering some of the corny scripted banter between songs, most of which were popular at the time, though a number of them were standards and/or staples of his repertoire for decades. The performances rarely last more than two minutes, though Sinatra fans will hardly feel cheated. Among the highlights are his rich duet with Dorothy Kirsten of "Some Enchanted Evening," "There's Yes Yes in Your Eyes," and "Body and Soul," the latter adding Bobby Hackett's fine cornet solo. The sound of these vintage radio transcriptions is excellent, with few audio defects, and excellent liner notes and vintage photographs are part of the package. ~ Ken Dryden
